CREW Solidarity with SÉTUE
Raised by Euryale Cliche-Laroche
Passed with support by the General Assembly, October 9th 2025
SÉTUE is a student worker union that has been given by its membership a strike mandate of 20 days for better working conditions, including, but not limited to, a wage increase that competes with inflation, pay equalization and protections to their fundamental right to strike. They have shown solidarity with CREW in our strike of Spring 2025, which has secured important gains such as a 20% wage increase in three years, partial retroactive pay, and a historic indexation system.
A strike mandate was shared on September 26th, 2025 and reads as follows:
“Negotiations have been stalling since the end of June when UQAM has submitted an offer described as “global and final” that did not meet the objectives of the SÉTUE. In order to restart negotiations and reach a satisfactory agreement, the Union has submitted a request for conciliation to the Ministry of Labour. Conciliation began on 19th of September and will continue on 1st and 8th of October.”
The main points still in dispute are:
a multi-faith room accessible and dedicated to meditation;
accessible toilets;
complete retroactivity for everyone;
monetary recognition of double diplomacy;
wage increases that will catch up with inflation in recent years and help maintain the quality of life over the life of the collective agreement.
CREW supports SÉTUE in its strike mandate and preparations. For more information about SÉTUE and their efforts, check out their website.
